Mastering Your Communication

Mastering Your Communication

A lot of people have a poor perception of sales, but here is the thing, we are all salespeople. Everyone from age 2 to 92 is selling something, we are all working to get what what we want. And the biggest tool we have in our toolbox? Our words.

We use our words to get our way, we use our words to build relationships, and we use our words to get sales.

“Sales is when love and self-respect meet each other in a perfect exchange.”

Sales boils down to a problem and solution business, and there are three keys things to remember as you work to master your communication.

You are valuable.

If you want to master your communication, you have to first make sure you value yourself. When you understand your value and that everyone has value, you are less likely to let someone take advantage of you. When you have self respect and understand your value, you’ll also be more open to learning from others who are experts in their field.

You own your actions, but how you handle your mistakes is what really matters.

Own your actions and give yourself grace. Take 100% responsibility for your actions, but go a step further, and forgive yourself when you make a mistake..

Everyone screws up, but we hold on to our mistakes longer than anyone else does. If you accept responsibility and then immediately forgive yourself, you will experience an incredibly powerful shift. Think about it – no one can hurt you when you own your responsibility 100% in each situation.

I was a baseball player for years and I learned several things. You can screw up 7 out of 10 times and be a Hall of Famer. But if you let those errors consume you, it will ruin the rest of your game. If I bobbled a catch, my options were to stew on my mistake or to forgive myself and move on. Dwelling on your mistakes helps no one, especially you.

You have to have a short memory when it comes to your mistakes. But it doesn’t give you a free pass to make those same mistakes again. Forgive yourself, yes, but learn from your mistake and don’t do it again. You will be unstoppable when you take responsibility for your actions, forgive yourself, and learn from your mistakes.

You need to provide solutions.

It is not enough to listen and accept responsibility, you have to offer solutions. Having solutions though, means that you have to be educating yourself constantly. When you are well informed, you’ll be able to help solve problems.

Bonus: It’s not you, it’s them.

What people think of you isn’t a reflection of you, it’s a reflection of them and what’s going on in their lives. Having love and self-respect will enable you to stand your ground. Accepting responsibility for your actions and forgiving yourself will allow you to move on and grow. Don’t let others’ crappy attitudes dictate your actions or how you feel about yourself.
